Dave began his working
life as a boy coal-miner in the 1930s. His main task was to feed the
pit mules before they were sent below ground as well as, of course,
shovelling up piles of their excrement. Mention horse manure and
he’ll bare his teeth and head quickly to the nearest bar... which
is handy when it’s his round.
Dave, alongside Andy, forms the engine
room of the band... a very experienced bassist he is occasionally seen
wielding, to good effect, a double bass instead of his usual Fenders.
Before joining John as a founder member of the Mules, Dave was
a member of a successful Lonnie Donegan tribute band.
A keen collector of rare vinyl
records he has wide and varied musical tastes, anything from the
Fabulous Thurderbirds to Spooky Tooth and Caravan.
Ê ÊDave wonÕt mind me mentioning that he has the voice of an angel and was once principal boy soprano in the Grimethorpe Colliery pit choir (though where his Brummie accent came from, I have no idea).
